What is Exposure Therapy?

Exposure Therapy is a therapeutic approach designed to help individuals confront and overcome fears or anxiety by gradually exposing them to the feared stimulus in a safe and controlled manner. In exposure therapy, clients are guided to confront situations, objects, or thoughts that trigger their anxiety or distress, starting with less threatening stimuli and gradually progressing to more challenging ones as they build confidence and tolerance. Through repeated exposure and practice, individuals learn to manage their anxiety responses, develop coping strategies, and ultimately reduce their fear and avoidance. Exposure therapy is often used to treat various anxiety disorders, phobias, PTSD, and other conditions characterized by avoidance behaviors and irrational fears.
