Peter is currently a Master’s level MA in counselling psychology practicum student, who is qualified to practice under the clinical supervision of an approved practicum supervisor.
Currently, I am in the practicum phase of completing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Boyd & Associates and am located in Richmond, BC. I have extensive experience working with people and have both a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto and a Masters in Coaching Science from UBC. I’ve been working with people for over 30 years now, both as an educator and a high-performance sports coach.
My journey to counselling has been an interesting one. I’ve always enjoyed helping people to achieve the vision they have for their life and to assist them with their personal growth. As a result, I work from a client-centered approach, although I borrow from a variety of perspectives, including CBT, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Narrative Therapy.
A client-centred approach means that the counsellor isn’t the expert handing out advice. It is about a partnership where you’re the expert on you and the counsellor brings a knowledge of best practices for creating mental health. Through that partnership, the client can safely explore whatever is bothering them and create a new way of thinking and moving through the world that is healthy and functional. At the core of my personal philosophy is a foundational belief in exploring the human condition by emphasizing individual freedom, choice, and the search for meaning in the face of life's inherent uncertainties and challenges.
